Purley & Woodcote
Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People

Samir has lived in and around Purley his whole life. His family has been in Croydon for over 50 years and he attended local schools. He has been involved in local politics for a number of years and is looking forward to working to have a Council which positively delivers for residents. Samir can’t wait to be an active ward councillor who lives and breathes casework, working effectively with residents’ groups, the Purley BID, the Purley & Woodcote Safer Neighbourhoods Team, and others. If elected, Samir’s main focus will be to fight overdevelopment in Purley & Woodcote and preserve its special character. He is also passionate about education and strengthening communities through opportunities for children and young people, having previously worked on social mobility and apprenticeships policy. Samir currently works in Government Relations supporting businesses, charities, and industry groups across travel, technology and food and drink sectors. Outside of work/politics, he enjoys seeing the world, learning Spanish and international television and cinema.
