Margaret Bird is honoured to have been elected as the Conservative Councillor in the new ward of Old Coulsdon alongside Steve Hollands having represented Coulsdon East since 2014 , She has lived in Old Coulsdon for over 37 years. Her 3 children were educated in Old Coulsdon, She was a Compliance Manager for the Conservative Party until 2010, has been Acting Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer of the Conservative Women’s Organisation. She is on the Management Committee of the Saffron Valley Federation, the PRU's for Croydon and has served on several other school governing bodies.

Margaret was an Independent Review member of School Admissions & Exclusions panels for Croydon schools for over 11 years before being elected as a Councillor and is particularly passionate about every child’s right to receive an outstanding education. She was a founder member of the group who campaigned to successfully keep the Bowling Green in Coulsdon Memorial Park open by using volunteers and founded the Christmas Lights in Old Coulsdon (CLOCfg) group to raise funds for Christmas Lights in Old Coulsdon. She is also Vice Chair of Friends of Farthing Downs and attends Old Coulsdon RA (OCRA)  and Hartley and District RA (HADRA) meetings. She also works with East Coulsdon Residents Association (ECRA) and CAT (Community at Tollers).

On Croydon Council Margaret is a Vice Chair on the Licensing Committee, is Deputy to Cllr. Yvette Hopley the Shadow Cabinet member for Health and Adult Social Care , is a member of the Health & Wellbeing Board, a member of the Adult Social services review panel, and is a reserve member on the Scrutiny Panel for Children Young People and Learners.

Margaret is Chair of the Old Coulsdon and Coulsdon West Safer Neighbourhood Ward panel.

Steve Hollands is a Croydon man having lived in the borough more or less his whole life. Steve's family have been connected to Croydon since the late 19th century. Living in north Croydon until the late eighties and now in Purley with his wife and two children.

Garden Waste Collections return

Garden Waste crews are back on the road. Please leave out your bins on your scheduled collection day, Mondays in Old Coulsdon, and they will collect any extra waste too.

They are still operating with a reduced workforce due to Covid 19 but hope to have more staff return next week.

Survey opens on Croydon’s future libraries service
 

Croydon Council has today (Thursday) begun a consultation asking residents for their ideas and feedback on how to shape the borough’s libraries service amid tighter budget controls.

Emergency Gas works

SGN are working on an emergency repair of a gas leak in Downs Road at its junction with Marlpit Lane, and will be controlling vehicles with multi way temporary signals.  The works are expected to be completed by 21st January .

Refurbished Laptops

Thanks to local resident,  Vic Young, who refurbished 2 laptops, a desktop and an IPad, Cllr Bird was able to deliver them to  Oasis Academy Coulsdon  today for disadvantaged year 11's.

Message from Met Police on E Scooters

The Met has provided an update on the latest advice to people using e-scooters in London.

Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens, from the Met’s Road and Transport Policing Command, said privately owned e-scooters remain illegal on roads and in public places.

Coulsdon Road Roadworks

Thursday, 5 November, 2020

Two way temporary signals, which will include a pedestrian phase as the main pedestrianised signals will be switched off, will be installed on Coulsdon Road near its junction with Keston Avenue. The works will commence on Monday 9th November and are expected to be completed by 30th November.

Keston Avenue School Streets scheme

A reminder to all those that use Keston Avenue that the school streets scheme is now LIVE  and the Council will issue fines if you drive into Keston Avenue from Coulsdon Road or from the Court Avenue Junction with Keston Avenue towards Coulsdon Road between 8 & 9.30am and 2pm-4pm. 

Councillors Surgery

Cllr Margaret Bird and Cllr Steve Hollands will be holding our surgery on Saturday 31 Oct on Tudor Parade, Coulsdon Road  10am-12 noon if  the weather is  behaving !  

Alternatively if it is raining , we will be socially distanced inside the Guide Hut ( behind the Bakers)  as usual.
