Shaw Crescent: Planning Application

2 Shaw Crescent

Many residents are concerned about the planning application proposing to replace the one house at 2 Shaw Crescent with eight semi detached houses. Looking at the application, it is clear that this is an overdevelopment of the site, with some of the proposed 3 bedroom houses having a garden the same size or smaller than a single parting space!

Some residents will recall a similar planning application that was submitted for Oakwood Avenue – many of us heard about it because it would back on to Purley Cattery and would have a devastating effect on this business. This too was for eight semi-detached houses in a similar style and configuration, squeezed on to a plot that could not accommodate so many houses. The proposal, by the same developer as that in Shaw Crescent, was so bad that the Planning Committee declined it twice and just two weeks ago, the developer’s appeal was also rejected by the Planning Inspectorate.

On the basis that a near identical proposal was so comprehensively declined, it seems incredible that the same developer is having another go but with such clear direction from the Planning Inspector it would also be incredible if Croydon’s Planning Committee saw fit to agree to this application.

Cllr Tim Pollard has objected and referred the application to Planning Committee and I have also submitted a written objection – the wording of the Inspectorate’s decision on Oakwood Avenue came in very helpful!
