Southern Gas Networks (SGN) have notified us that major works will start on Pampisford Road from 4th May. These safety critical works to upgrade the gas network will last 16 weeks.

SGN’s e-mail states:-

‘We need to carry out safety-critical work to upgrade the gas network in your area. This needs to go ahead now, rather than wait until the pandemic passes, to ensure your local community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

We shouldn’t need to interrupt gas supplies to homes or businesses, and our engineers won’t be calling at residents’ home.

We will start work in Pampisford Road South Croydon on 4 May 2020.

In close consultation with Croydon Council, we have agreed to complete the following work in mulitple phases, which includes traffic management in place to ensure the safety of everyone around the site. Please note, we will work sequentially through the phases and review each phase in line with Government advice.

·         On 4 May 2020 for approximately 16 weeks, we will be working on Pampisford Road from the junction with Haling Park Road to the junction with Kendra Hall Road. This is an 8-phase project with the first four phases outlined below.

Phase 1: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working at the junction with Waddon Way and Haling Park Road (roundabout)

o   We will need to implement multi-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

o   The slip road connecting Haling Park Road northbound to Pampisford Road will be closed during this time

Phase 2: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from outside number 217 Pampisford Road to just beyond the junction with St Ann’s Way

o   We will need to implement multi-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Phase 3: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from just beyond the junction with St Ann’s Way to opposite 252 Pampisford Road (Oakfield Court)

o   We will need to implement multi-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Phase 4: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from opposite 252 Pampisford Road (Oakfield Court) to the junction with St Augustine Avenue

o   During this time, we will need to implement a road closure on St Augustine Avenue at the junction with Pampisford Road

§  A diversion will be in place via Avondale Road and Haling Park Road

o   We will also need to implement two-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

For phases 5-8, we also need to upgrade individual service pipes to properties. As this may interrupt supply and require access, we will not complete this part of the work until the Government relax current social distancing restrictions, Therefore, if we are unable to carry out service pipe upgrades, we will move the service pipes into footways and return to the area to complete at a later date.

Phase 5: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from just beyond the junction with St Augustine Avenue to outside number 189 Pampisford Road

o   We will need to implement two-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Phase 6: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from outside number 189 Pampisford Road to just beyond the junction with Columbine Avenue

o   We will need to implement multi-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Phase 7: for approximately 1 week we will be working from just beyond the junction with Columbine Avenue to outside number 173 Pampisford Road

o   We will need to implement two-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Phase 8: for approximately 2 weeks we will be working from outside number 173 Pampisford Road to the junction with Kendra Hall Road

o   We will need to implement multi-way signals to ensure traffic can flow safely around the works

Please note, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout and all traffic management will move along Pampisford Road as our works do.

We’re working closely with UK Government and public health bodies to make sure we work safely and in line with expert advice during the coronavirus outbreak. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our customers from catching or spreading the virus as we carry out our safety-critical project.

Thank you for your understanding and support during these challenging times.’

We hope this information is of use.
