Croham Valley Road Planning Applications.

Having referred 3 planning applications in close proximity to the Planning Committee I was very hopeful that with support from the Croham Valley Residents Association we may get a resounding result of some of the applications being refused.

How wrong we all were, after the presentations and questions from the members with subsequent clarification from the planning officer, a vote was taken

Again, the Labour Group on the Committee voted in favour (6) with the Conservative Group voting against (4)

5 Croham Valley Road

Demolition of the existing property followed by a replacement development of 6 houses (3 houses fronting Croham Valley Road and 3 houses fronting Ballards Farm Close), gardens, car parking, new accesses, refuse and recycling.

Approved

6 Croham Valley Road

Demolition of existing house, erection of a two-storey building plus roof space to provide 9 apartments, provision of 8 car parking spaces, refuse store and new landscaping.

Approved

Land Rear Of 31-33 Croham Valley Road (Facing onto Ballards Rise) South Croydon

Erection of 2 two storey detached buildings with accommodation within the roof space comprising 8 flats, bin store, formation of vehicular access and provision of 7 parking spaces

Approved

Residents in the seating area of the Chamber became vocal for good reason after the vote, “utterly disgraceful” “you should be ashamed” “destroying our local area”

Is it any wonder that residents everywhere are angry at the way the local plan is interpreted leaving Labour to actively give permission to every developer who comes along and wishes to build on a plot containing just one house or bungalow, to be replaced by 9 flats?

This is being replicated in Kenley, Sanderstead, Selsdon and Addington Village, Selsdon Vale and Forestdale Wards.

Because of this, local residents’ associations in the South have formed DEMOC (referendum on a democratically elected mayor for Croydon) In order to look again at the local plan in order to balance the need for homes in conjunction with local residents

Residents and Local Councillors in the South and Central must see a fairer planning system before Labour change the character of our area for good.

As Cllr Paul Scott stated “Flats are appropriate (subject to design etc) in every residential street in the Borough”

No area is safe from development under this Labour Administration.
