Cllr Jade Appleton has made the difficult decision to stand down as Councillor for Park Hill & Whitgift, effective immediately. A by-election will shortly be held in the ward.

Jade Appleton said:

Following much consideration I can confirm that I have today submitted my resignation letter to the Chief Executive of the Council.

I strongly believe that dedication, time and care are essential to effectively fulfil the role of a local councillor. Due to a change in my work commitments I no longer feel available to commit to the time required to deliver the standard deserved by local residents and our community.

It has been a honour to have had the opportunity to serve the ward I call my home. Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to do so.

I am especially grateful to all the residents across Park Hill and Whitgift who have taken the time to contact me, meet with me or work with me over the last few years.

I would like to take my final message as Cllr to highlight just a few within our community who are making a difference locally and to say thank you to them:

  • The dedicated Residents Associations - both in Park Hill and Whitgift - led by volunteers, ensuring their residents are heard, organising events, litter picks, scrutinising planning applications and bringing our community together.
  • Our local policing team and our PCSO Ollie who has worked to ensure our local policing team are trusted visible and accessible. As well as our local safer ward panel chaired by Graham and Natasha, to prioritise the safety of our residents by working with everyone.
  • Our local schools, in particular, Park Hill Infants for involving me in their brilliant activities from nativity to school council, any visit has left me full of joy from their positivity.
  • Our friends of parks groups, whether in Park Hill Park as volunteers developing the walled Garden into a treasured community asset, to the organisers of the Lloyd park run - particularly the junior Park run for making me so welcome on freezing Sundays!
  • Our local businesses - Andrea and her incredible team for making the Lloyd Park Cafe a fantastic community hub, and Jenny at Water Tower Teas, running for more than 35 years! and her fantastic cakes!
  • St Matthews for always being supportive and encouraging of community cohesion and hosting our community activities.

There are many more I could mention, thank you to everyone making a difference across Park Hill and Whitgift.
