Mark has been privileged to represent Shirley as a Councillor since 2022 and served in many community groups during the 20 years he has lived in Croydon including as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Addiscombe, Woodside and Ashburton Neighbourhood Partnership.
He has worked in Libraries for 26 years in schools, colleges, universities and public libraries. While working in an inner city comprehensive school he set up and ran their Duke of Edinburgh programme. This is why education is one of his passions.
As a child he spent time in foster care before being adopted which is one of the reasons why he asked to serve on the Children and Young Persons Council Committee. He also serves on the Planning Committee where he ensures that all new developments are appropriate and seeks to protect the local character and the green spaces of Croydon’s neighbourhoods like Shirley.
Mark was also Croydon Vote Leave Election Agent during the EU Referendum. He believes that being a Councillor is a calling and not a profession “For too many it’s about power and money, for me it’s about making a real difference to people’s lives”.
