I want to update you on some of the work we are doing as part of the Keep Croydon Safe campaign and ask for your support. A key aim of the campaign is to tackle misinformation about Covid-19 and in line with London Councils, we are doing some myth-busting across our channels. The messages are based on pan-London and local insight and aim to address some of the popular misconceptions about how the virus is spread and what we need to do to protect ourselves. We will be sharing a different myth every day on our social channels so please do retweet.
We are now half way through the period of national restrictions and as expected case numbers in Croydon continue to rise across all age groups, with the incidence spread across our borough. You can find the latest data on our webpage. We know that in London most infection occurs when households meet and so by reducing our social contact, we reduce the risk of infection. We all need to play our part to bring these numbers down, by following the national restrictions and the public health guidance around hands, face, space which remains vital. Please continue to share these messages as widely as you can among your communities.
In terms of testing, Croydon currently has a high testing rate – this means a lot of people are getting tested which is good and we need to keep this up. It is important that all residents get tested if they have any of the symptoms, however mild, and they and their household self-isolate while they wait for the results. Most days we do have capacity at our local testing site and the mobile unit at Fairfield Halls, which are open seven days a week. We want people to be clear that they CAN leave their house to get tested, even during this time of national restrictions and tests can be booked by calling 119 or online here. However, they must go straight there and back – not visit the shops on the way, or use public transport or taxis as they could endanger others – and this is something you can all help us to communicate to local residents.
Thank you once again for your support and stay safe,
Rachel Flowers
