With the announcement that the elections for the Mayor of London and London Assembly will go ahead on 6 May, residents are asked to get their requests to vote by post in well before the deadline to avoid delays.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the elections that were originally planned for 2020 were postponed to ensure the safety of voters, candidates, and staff.
While strict measures will be put in place to keep every voter safe from Covid-19, more are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to vote by post this year than in typical elections.
The deadline to apply to vote by post is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday 20 April, however to ensure there is ample time to process what is expected to be a significant increase in applications, postal voters are being asked to apply without delay.
Applying to vote by post is very simple – the forms are available on our website. Once they have been filled out, forms can either be scanned and emailed to electoral.services@croydon.gov.uk or posted to The Electoral Registration Officer, Town Hall, Katharine Street, Croydon, CR9 1DE.
Any resident that does not have access to a printer or is unable to download the form, may request a form to be mailed that can be filled out and returned. Requests for paper forms should be made as soon as possible by calling 020 8726 6300 or emailing electoral.services@croydon.gov.uk.
In order to vote by post you must also be registered to vote. The quickest and easiest way to do this is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. The deadline to register to vote in these elections is midnight on Monday 19 April.
