I was delighted to see UK Shared Prosperity Funding allocated to Purley through the support of Croydon Council and driven by the Purley Business Improvement District (Purley BID).
My Council colleagues, Mayor Perry and I were pleased to support the projects, which significantly make our local area more attractive and inviting.
Projects include:
- The revitilsation of the mural under the railway arch on Godstone Road by renowned artist Lionel Stanhope.
- Local artist Chris Shea from State of the Art transforming the Rotary Block with artwork celebrating Purley’s rich history, particularly highlighting the world’s first iron railway that ran through the area along the Rotary Field path. The modern twist in his work provides a unique glimpse into what the railway might have looked like, blending historical significance with contemporary art.
- Wonderful artwork from artist Julian Opie and Year 4 students of Christ Church
- New High Street winter lights
- New banners along Purley roads, brightening lamp columns
- Colourful art from local artist Steven Robertson at the Royal Oak Centre with gobo lights projecting onto the ground
- More flowers and plants for Purley in Bloom and a new noticeboard
The Purley BID’s full write-up can be found here.
This is great news to Purley ahead of the Mayor's Bltiz which is coming to Purley soon. My thanks to the Purley BID, the artists involved, Mayor Perry and Council officers for driving this forward.
