I was delighted to join Vicar Fr. Grant Cohen and members of the congregation in a celebration of St Mary's. I can't believe the church is 100 years old. In 1801 the Parish of Sanderstead had a population of 204 and was described as "an idyllic village with herdsmen, some cottages, woods, fields finely cultivated and sheep walks well stocked and with distant views of the Royal Castle of Windsor". The views from the top of Sanderstead are beautiful and it is important that we keep the character of the area in any development undertaken. I enjoyed a quite time of reflection of my life here in Sanderstead and the home I am in now which I grew up in as a child enjoying all the wonderful green spaces and everything Sanderstead had and still does offer. I don't know who made the scones for the event but they were delicious. Happy 100th Birthday.
