An inspection has now taken place of the playground in Rotary Field and the Playground Development Officer has reported that:
- The hanging rope swing was removed by the Council due to persistent anti-social behaviour that led to exposed metal wires and multiple call outs to make it safe.
- The devil island swing was removed as it was set on fire. A quote has been received to replace it and this should take place by the end of the year
- The multi play unit panel was recently vandalised and then was further damaged hence the pole being exposed. The contractor has now made it safe and a repair will be made shortly.
- The smaller surfacing issue will be carried out when the Council is able to restock materials.
- The larger surfacing repairs, for example where it is lifting, is due to be updated as part of a borough-wide repairs programme.
- The vandalised rail next to the steps that go up to Pampisford Road will be fixed but a date has not been provided at this point. The steps and railing were only replaced at my request a year ago so it's especially frustrating that this has been broken so soon.
Clearly the major issue is that there is repeated anti-social behavior at this site. I will ask the local Police team to keep an eye on the playground and I would also ask that residents contact Police should they see any anti-social behaviour being committed.
