I’m delighted to share some fantastic on the future of Purley Leisure Centre - just in time for Christmas.
Three weeks ago, I let you know that the plans had been approved by Croydon Council and referred to the Greater London Authority (“GLA”) for final sign-off, which is a requirement for major developments like this.
Today, I can confirm that we have received formal confirmation from the Deputy Mayor of London for Planning that the GLA will not be intervening in the application or directing us to refuse it.
This is great news - it means the project has cleared another important stage in the planning process and remains on track.
This is the result of hard work by officers, the developer and local people working together towards a plan that the GLA could accept.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far, especially local residents and community groups who have taken the time to engage in the planning process. I’ll continue to keep you updated as things progress.
-Mayor Jason Perry
