Based at the Purley United Reform Church, the Purley Food Hub is entirely volunteer-run. I'm an active volunteer there and the picture posted is of me and others on shift last Saturday.
The service provides free food parcels for individuals and families living in CR8 (Purley), CR2 (South Croydon), CR5 (Coulsdon) and CR0 4 (Waddon). People are referred by various agencies, including the Jobs Centre, Croydon Council, local Churches, schools and GP practices. Three meals a day for three days is provided.
Each month, a donation priority list is published, which I attach. For this month, stocks are worrying low, and with the school holidays just a few weeks ago, please see their list below and make every effort to support them if you can:
- Long life whole milk cartons
- Small/medium tea bag packets
- Tinned meat meals, especially hot dogs and meatballs
- Tinned tomatoes
- Medium (500g) packets of breakfast cereals
- Small (500g) packets of sugar
- Small bottles of squash
- Packets of custard (requiring only hot water)
- Packet soup
- Baby wipes
- Toilet rolls
Donations can be dropped off at the Purley United Reform Church on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings between 9am and noon or at their in-store and roadside collection points here.
To have the list emailed direct to your inbox at the start of each month, please contact [email protected].
