We’re very pleased to see the Mayor’s Blitz squad head to Purley on Monday 19th May as part of his Cleaner Croydon campaign to restore pride in the borough.
The three-week blitz will be centred around the district centre, with a range of targeted activity, from tackling flytipping to removing graffiti, deep cleansing streets, providing trading standards advice for businesses and enforcing illegal parking.
Other important activity includes bollard and bin replacement, repairs to footways, weed removal and increased police patrols.
To support small businesses, the blitz team will remove and prevent graffiti and flytipping on their property, with a first clean free of charge, as well as advice provide advice and tips to keep shops looking great.
Croydon Council officers have also been liaising with Transport for London counterparts to ensure the Blitz is joined-up and efficient, given some areas of Purley District Centre are the responsibility of TfL.
Cllrs Simon Brew and Samir Dwesar were pleased to join Meghan from the Blitz team, along with Simon and Catherine from the Purley Business Improvement District (Purley BID), James, Chair of the Purley & Woodcote Residents Association (PWRA) and Ranjiv, Chair of the Purley & Woodcote Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) a few weeks ago for a walkabout and identify issues that could be sorted during the blitz.
Mayor Perry was also in Purley earlier this week ahead of the Blitz start to highlight issues and get businesses signed up for the Council’s new Business Blitz Pledge. We’re delighted that Ketan Patel, owner of Purley Bon Bon for 40 years was the first to sign this pledge and will receive a free graffiti removal kit, sponsored by Veolia and FM Conway. Businesses can sign-up here.
We’re thrilled at the effort going into this and are working collaboratively and constructively with Mayor Perry, Council officers, TfL, the Purley BID, PWRA and SNT to ensure the Purley Blitz is a success.
Do get in touch if there are any particular issues you’d like to flag and together let’s restore pride in Purley!
