The local councillors have received a response from the police in respect of the recent incident in West Hill.  We understand that the incident has caused great concern and hope this gives some assurance.

Thank you for contacting your local Sanderstead councillors and for raising your concerns regarding the incident that occurred at Jasmine Lodge on 8 July 2026.

We appreciate that this incident has caused considerable concern and anxiety for residents, particularly families living within the area. The safety and wellbeing of residents is of paramount importance, and I understand why many people are seeking reassurance and information about the response and ongoing investigation.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they are leading an investigation into a possible firearms discharge at the location. Officers attended the scene, conducted an area search and recovered items believed to be related to the incident, which is being further investigated. The investigation is currently being led by Specialist Crime South (Trident), the unit responsible for investigating firearms discharges across London. The police have advised that, as the investigation is at an early stage, they are unable to provide further detail regarding motive or specific investigative actions at this time.

The local policing team is aware of the incident and has confirmed that reassurance patrols will be undertaken in the area.

At present, Croydon Council has not received any information from the police indicating any wider risk to residents. However, we will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police and local partners to monitor the situation and provide support where appropriate.

If any resident has information that may assist the investigation, the Metropolitan Police request that they contact them via 101 quoting reference 3544/08JUL26, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Thank you again for bringing these concerns to our attention. We recognise the impact this incident has had on the local community and will continue to liaise with the Metropolitan Police regarding any measures necessary to support residents and maintain community reassurance.

 Yours sincerely,

Lynne Hale, Yvette Hopley & Helen Redfern
