Regular users will have noticed significant improvements to the Little Roke footbridge in Kenley. This well-used route connects the Little Roke and Lower Kenley areas to Oaks Road and is particularly important for parents, carers and children travelling to and from Harris Primary School.
Previously, the bridge had become overgrown, with overhanging vegetation and leaf fall making it feel dirty and poorly lit—especially during darker hours. Many residents (including me!) found it an uncomfortable and, at times, intimidating place to walk in the winter months.

Kenley councillors have been working with Network Rail and Croydon Council to address these issues, recognising that responsibility for the bridge is shared between the two organisations.
As a result, Network Rail has now cut back the overgrown vegetation, making the space feel much more open and accessible. In addition, Croydon Council has confirmed that improved lighting will be installed later this year, which will further enhance safety and visibility.
These improvements are a welcome step forward and will make a real difference for everyone who relies on the footbridge each day.
