This is the time of year we have to put our meadow created in 2004 as one of FCHWS projects to bed. We worked with the Downland Trust to clear the area shown on old maps of years of scrub.
Our volunteers first have to cut it all down, no easy task then rake every bit of grass off the meadow. We also clear lots and lots of apples putting them in mounds nearby for all the animals and birds. It is amazing how quickly they disappear.
The hard work is worth it. We are rewarded every spring and summer with a variety of wild flowers. It is a sunny haven for bees butterflies lizards frogs and insects.
Every year something new pops up, I can’t wait to see what will surprise us next year.
