First back garden development proposed for Rockhampton road

Sunday, 26 September, 2021

We have all seen the effects of the policy of development intensification pursued by this Labour Administration in the south of the borough

Roads have been changed from pleasant family homes to block after block of bland flats with the loss of local character, trees and nature habitat.
We have also seen permission granted to build another house in the back garden of family homes.
A planning application has come forward that proposes to build a two storey building with roof space in the back garden of no 20 Rockhampton road. It is a large building directly opposite Emmanuel Church and opening out onto Normanton road. Not only will it affect the amenities of immediate neighbours it would be if granted permission the first back garden development in this attractive road of 1930s houses. Sadly this often has a domino effect on roads.
I have objected as ward councillor and referred to Planning Committee.

I would like to thank every single Croydonian who put their trust in me at this election. I am so proud to have been elected Mayor of this great Borough. It was also fantastic to see the local Conservatives secure some fantastic new gains on the Council, including in Waddon and New Addington.
