Many residents, along with Kenley councillors, Mayor Jason Perry, and Chris Philp MP, raised concerns about a recent application for a telecommunications mast on Hayes Lane (Ref: 25/03338/PDO – replacement and relocation of a 12.5m pole with a 20m pole, plus new antennas and equipment cabinets).
While we recognise the importance of equipment such as this, we considered this particular proposal have a detrimental impact on the local area.
We are therefore pleased that Croydon Council’s planning officers have objected to the proposal from Cornerstone Telecommunications. The council advised that, because the mast would be relocated rather than simply replaced, it does not qualify as permitted development under national planning rules. This means it cannot proceed under the fast-track process used for minor telecoms upgrades.
If the developer wishes to continue, they will need to submit a full planning application, which would be publicly advertised and open for residents’ comments.
Make sure you register to received updates from Croydon’s planning portal – see our previous guidance: Kenley residents - register to receive notifications of planning applications near you.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and share further updates once any new application is received.
