A fruit and veg wholesaler supplying shops and retailers across the UK has been fined more than £107,000 after Croydon Council inspectors found rat droppings next to food, pigeon droppings on produce and evidence of pest infestation at a warehouse in Coulsdon. The court heard it was “highly likely” the conditions would have resulted in customers experiencing ill health. As these pictures show, this is unacceptable. Food was being stored in disgusting conditions with poor hygiene standards and K Veg Wholesale Ltd has rightly been hit with a massive fine. We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to businesses that put public health at risk. Where repeated warnings are ignored and businesses fail to meet even basic hygiene standards, we will not hesitate to prosecute.
