I am delighted to share today that Croydon Council has approved a planning application for an M&S Food Store in Purley, which will bring life back to the former dairy site on Brighton Road.
The new store, which will front onto Brighton Road in Purley Oaks, will serve residents across our neighbourhoods and has 68 parking spaces. It will also offer local businesses studio space in a creative and cultural enterprise centre at the rear.
The M&S store has been designed around the three locally-listed former dairy buildings, which will be given just a light renovation approach keeping parapet detailing, rooflines and railings as they are, giving the store a unique visual appearance. New additions to this frontage have been sympathetically scaled. At the rear, a new three storey building will be constructed on Purley Park Road, housing over 10,000sqft of flexible studio space for new local businesses.
This application has attracted much local support and it is great to see this somewhat neglected site being given new life, offering a very welcome new, quality food store in Purley, with the accompanying boost of a total of around 120 new jobs.
