It is with regret that I write to seek your support in opposing the massive tax increases on small businesses across the country that the Government has decided to implement this week.

The previous Government supported small businesses by providing 75% business rates relief for small retail, hospitality and leisure businesses, but the Chancellor of the Exchequer has now chosen to slash this to 40% from 1 April 2025 (this is sadly not an April Fool's joke). This is leading to some massive increases in business rates for local businesses in our neighbourhood.

This massive pressure is hitting small businesses at the same time as the Government's swingeing Employers' National Insurance increase. This is part of the Labour Government's £40 billion tax rise package, which before the election they denied would happen. The OBR report last October also found their claims last July about a £22 billion black hole were made up.

Here are some real examples of what Labour's tax increases will mean in our neighbourhood.

I'll continue opposing these plans, but please do join me by signing my petition to the Chancellor of the Exchequer:

Please do also share it with your friends, family and neighbours so that as many people as possible can sign the petition to protect small businesses in Croydon. Labour's tax increases will destroy jobs and force businesses to close.
