Residents may have noticed the installation of new bollards outside the Co-op parade on Godstone Road.
For some time, vehicles have regularly parked on the wide pavement outside the shops, obstructing access for pedestrians. This has been particularly difficult for disabled residents, wheelchair users, people with pushchairs and those with mobility impairments, who have often been forced to divert via Station Road or, in some cases, step onto the carriageway to continue their journey safely.
In addition to causing inconvenience, pavement parking at this location created safety concerns, including the risk of conflict with vehicles using Station Road when parked vehicles manoeuvred on and off the pavement.
Kenley councillors have been working with Transport for London (TfL), which is responsible for parking enforcement on the Red Route, to find a solution to the issue. We are pleased that TfL has now installed bollards to prevent vehicles from mounting the pavement and blocking this important pedestrian route.
These improvements should help make the area safer and more accessible for everyone using the parade.
