As I sheltered from the rain outside Village Pets today, it was great to see that demolition work was well under way at Barrowsfield on the other side of Limpsfield Road.
The previous Labour Council had granted permission for a block of 33 flats (un)fondly dubbed HMP Sanderstead. The other residents of Barrowsfield successfully fought against this approved development on the basis of the covenants that they held, and the rest of Sanderstead is hugely grateful for their lengthy efforts.
The Conservative-led Council has approved what looks like 6 attractive, and in-keeping with the local area, family-sized houses whilst the large Edwardian building is being renovated into two semi-detached houses. This strongly demonstrates the success of Mayor Jason Perry's policy to focus on design-led rather than density-led development.
