A new barrier has been installed at the entrance to Betts Mead open green space in Kenley, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent unauthorised vehicle access and protect the area from illegal encampments.
This measure reflects a commitment to protecting Betts Mead and maintaining it as a clean, safe, and accessible space for the whole community to enjoy. Concerns have recently been raised about unauthorised access by illegal encampments and the difficulties associated with enforcement once such encampments are in place.
This action supports and the Executive Mayor of Croydon’s, Jason Perry’s wider priority to make the borough’s streets and open spaces cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for residents.
As your local councillors we will continue to work with officers and the local community to strengthen protections for valued public spaces like Betts Mead and to respond proactively to issues that threaten their condition and accessibility.
