Red railings

Following several accidents outside St David’s School on Woodcote Valley Road, we pushed for urgent action to improve safety.

In December 2024, Chris Philp and I visited the school to speak directly with pupils about their concerns. We then launched a petition, which was presented to Full Council, and worked closely with Headteacher Sarah Syradd and parents to identify solutions.

This led to a petition which I presented at Full Council and we have been  working with officers on sensible solutions since then.

We are pleased that the Council has now painted the railings red to improve visibility near the school. In addition, bespoke “pencil” bollards have been ordered and will be installed shortly. These measures will increase driver awareness, enhance pedestrian safety, and help prevent inconsiderate parking.

This is a great example of what can be achieved when residents, schools and councillors work together. My thanks also go to Executive Mayor Jason Perry for his support and pushing officers to take meaningful action.
