Several residents have got in touch with me regarding 922-930 Purley Way, a development where no progress has been made for quite some time following the original contractor entering administration. This has caused quite an eyesore to the existing street scene and disquiet amongst both residents and ward councillors. This was an application strongly opposed by your then conservative councillors and Chris Philp MP, but approved under the previous Labour-controlled Planning Committee.
I have raised this site on a number of occasions with council officers and have been provided with an update.
Southern Housing has recently advised the Council that before proceeding to tender for a new main contractor they would like to resolve any outstanding planning conditions associated with the consented scheme.
To move this forward, they are seeking an initial meeting with the Council's planning team and their architects to discuss:
- the outstanding planning conditions
- a brief overview of any related issues
- a strategy for condition sign-off, whether via a Section 73 application or a Non-Material Amendment (NMA)
- arrange a pre-application meeting
This meeting is likely to take place in September and will then inform the progression of bringing this site forward as soon as possible.
Whilst there appears to be movement, we can all agree that progress has been too slow and it is disappointing that this application was approved in the first place.
