Today Monday, 15 September, marks 85 years since Battle of Britain Day, the decisive moment in 1940 when the skies above London and the South East changed the course of the war.
Kenley was at the heart of it. Pilots flew out from here in Hurricanes and Spitfires, ground crews worked tirelessly, and local people stood strong through raids and bombings. Even when the airfield was badly hit, the community’s resilience meant it never stopped.
That same spirit runs through Kenley today. Just as neighbours once looked out for each other in the toughest of times, we continue to build a community where people feel connected, supported, and proud of where they live.
As local councillors, we are proud to represent the residents of Kenley, a place shaped by courage, togetherness, and hope. Eighty-five years on, we celebrate the strength of the people and community groups who make Kenley such a special place.
