A little more about your local team

Cllr  Eddy Arram

Eddy has represented Ashburton Ward for a number of years and is passionate about the ward having lived in it for most of his married life. He has worked hard to conserve the ward's village like qualities, especially in the Lower Addiscombe Road shopping district, fighting back land development and preserving its parks. Eddy works closely with all the resident and tenant associations in the ward, valuing their contribution and assisting them in their aims. Eddy’s day job is a facilities manager. He currently holds the following council appointments: Deputy to the Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport, a member of the Standards Committee and is a Croydon appointee to the Upper Norwood Joint Library Authority where he alternates as chairman and vice chairman with a Lambeth Councillor. In addition Eddy is the Chairman of the Addiscombe Boys and Girls Club and a Governor at Shirley High School. Over the years Eddy has held a number of senior Council positions. He was for 8 years Chairman of the Library, Museum and Arts Committee and oversaw the building of the £30million Central Library and Clock Tower complex. He also served on the Housing Social Services and Planning Sub Committees. Eddy has represented Croydon and regional and national level and was appointed by the Secretary of State to serve on the Libraries and Information Commission which promoted and developed IT in the libraries whilst keeping their core values. Eddy is married with two sons, is a granddad and has two cats and a dog. His pastimes are (besides his grandchildren and when he gets a moment or two) going to the theatre and concerts, visiting gardens and watching football.

Cllr  Adam Kellett

Adam Kellett has been a London taxi driver for nearly twenty five years. He was Chairman of the Neighbourhood Partnership that covers Ashburton from 2006 until 2008. His wife is a Teaching Assistant in Thornton Heath and his son is in year five at his local primary school. Adam was originally selected to stand in neighbouring Addiscombe ward, but made a very late switch to Ashburton following the tragic passing away of Lindsay Frost (Ashburton councillor from 2006 to 2010 ) at the beginning of April. Adam says “Whilst I would be very proud to serve in Ashburton, it is with huge sadness that I try to step into the shoes of Lindsay Frost, who was an outstanding ward councillor and a great colleague and friend. He will be sorely missed by his ward colleagues, residents and, most of all, his young family”.

Cllr  Avril Slipper

Avril Slipper has represented Ashburton Ward since 1990 and served as deputy mayor in 1993/94. She has lived in Shirley for over thirty years, is married with a son and daughter both of whom were educated in Croydon, and has three grand daughters. Avril regularly supports residents opposing unsuitable planning applications and has been successful in obtaining additional road safety measures for local roads. Outside council and community work she enjoys the theatre, visiting places of interest and walking.
