Gin and Tonic Belt - What an insult.

At the Cabinet meeting on Monday 22nd February Cllr Letts said that middle class families won’t help children who are in need.
She referred to the “middle classes” as the” Gin and Tonic belt” and implied there was no community in these areas then made the following statement:-
In the ‘ Gin and Tonic belt’ if you mother kicks you out a neighbour won’t take you in but if you are in other communities that aren’t as well off, aunty down the road, or you mates mum or a neighbour will take you in”
I personally am hugely insulted as this implies that no one in the south of the borough who she was clearly referring to, cares about our children or their friends. I have certainly offered a bed for the night to a young person who was having a tough time at home, albeit briefly. I am sure many others have done exactly the same. Care does not depend on income or the size of house you live in.
Just imagine if the statement had been made the other way round, there would have been an outcry and rightly so, but why should Cllr Letts and her Labour cronies be allowed to insult a large proportion the borough.
On the night I would have asked for an apology but based on history I know it won’t happen.
