A message from the Police
04/11/2015 07:38:00......Posted by Sara Bashford

We have recieved the message below from our Police team. Please be aware.

Dear Residents,

It has come to the Selsdon and Ballards Team attention that a number of phone calls being made from an unknown number to the residents of Farley Road and Norfolk Avenue (there may be more roads that have yet to be reported to us). On one occasion an unknown female caller asked the resident if they were likely to be in the next day after asking about an alarm system. Or on another occasion another female caller said they can pop round to talk about medical issues! All residents have tried to dial 1471 but the unknown female(s) called from a withheld number.

Could I ask all residents to be aware and pass this information on? It is more than likely that these phone calls, genuine or not, are to be made elsewhere in the Selsdon area.

The residents who have received the phone calls have been left feeling worried. If you receive a phone call where the unknown caller makes you feel uncomfortable or is asking personal questions, then you should tell the caller you are not interested and that they should not call again. You should then hang up the phone.

As we get closer to Christmas the burglary figures begin to increase and this has already begun. Please do not become a victim. Do not give personal information to unknown callers.

Do you need advice from the Selsdon and Ballards Team (local team)?

Dial 0208 721 2464

Do you need to report a non urgent matter to the Police?

Dial 101.

Do you need to report an emergency?

Dial 999.

Do you need to report any fraudulent activity?

Dial 0300 123 2040 or visit

Warning from local Police on distraction theft
11/11/2018 17:41:00.......Posted by Robert Ward

A recent incident took place in Sanderstead which the police have asked that people be made aware of:-

An older lady knocked on the door of a house and said she needed help picking up an item, on this occasion a scarf. An equally elderly resident goes to help, leaving the front door wide open BUT on this occasion, her husband was inside and noticed a male on a bike, who appeared ready to come in through the open door.

This technique has also been employed in a similar vein in Surrey where whilst putting their bags in their car in a shopping centre car park people are being told that they’ve dropped something under the car.

Please be aware of this type of distraction theft and remember to report any suspicious activity to Police.

Flu vaccination for young children - please get your child vaccinated
19/10/2018 21:47:00.......Posted by Robert Ward

Flu can be very serious for some young children. If your child is aged 2 or 3, they can get the free flu nasal spray vaccination. It’s quick and easy with not a needle in sight.

Only about 33% of 2-3 year olds in Croydon had their flu vaccine last year. Protecting little ones from the flu is easy with a free nasal spray. Please get your child protected. Ask your GP now or search NHS flu vaccine.

Gas main replacement in Farnborough Avenue
10/10/2018 10:50:00.......Posted by Robert Ward

Southern gas networks are today, 10th October starting work to replace the gas main in Farnborough Avenue, which will include some works across the mouth of Copse view and Heathfield Vale. The majority of the work will involve open cut trenches in Farnborough Avenue, in the line of where cars would normally park, so existing flows will be maintained.

It will be necessary to close Farnborough Avenue whilst they trench across Heathfield Vale, connecting the new main to the existing one. Two-way lights will be in use on Heathfield Vale through this phase of works. Advanced warning of this closure will go out one week before it is due to happen, with a local diversion signposted.

NOTE: I have now been informed that Copse view will be closed from 25th October to enable the works passed the junction. Advanced warnings and a local diversion will be signed.

Bin issues and delays at Fairfield Halls
08/10/2018 17:38:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

There was a meeting of the full Council and there were many questions about the chaotic roll-out of the new wheeled bins.  I asked about the lack of progress with the refurbishment of Fairfield Halls - there is still no firm date for reopening.

Went to Monks Hill for their community association meeting.  They were discussing plans for their Christmas Crafts event in December and I am happy to support this using some funds from the Ward budget.  They have set the date for their Fund Day next year - 1st June - look forward to it!

Consultation on new Planning Guidelines
04/10/2018 17:36:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Went to the consultation event about the Intensification of the Suburbs proposals that are being put forward by the Council.  There were some good visuals, a video and some models which clearly showed the impact of the additional housing on communities.  I am not convinced this is the best way to tackle the housing shortage.

Attended a meeting of Addington Residents' Association where we discussed how to protect the field at Pioneer Place from development.  It is a precious community resource with many rare plants and animals.

Intensification of the Suburbs
26/09/2018 17:34:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Joined colleagues at a meeting of residents associations to discuss the Councils consultation on the Intensification of the Suburbs planning document.  They have serious concerns about the proposals and the impact they will have on their neighbourhoods.
