UKPN (UK Power Networks) are looking to renew a 33KV power cable from Purley to Addington and the proposed route is being finalised. The scheme is part of a larger investment programme UKPN are delivering over the next few years to ensure there infrastructure is fit for purpose. At the present time they are looking to start these works in February 2014.
The first stage of the works will be from the Sub-station in Whytecliffe Road North to Sanderstead Hill. the photo shows, rather small, a plan showing the route. If you want to see it a bit larger, click here!
A meeting is being held between the council and UKPN on 10 December 2013 to finalise the programming of this Stage. It is likely that they will have 2 gangs with one starting at the Sub-station and working towards Penwortham Road, and the other starting at Penwortham Road working towards Sanderstead Hill.
The majority of the works will be done in 50 – 100m lengths controlled by two-way temporary traffic signals and the trench will be reinstated as the works progress.
The two exceptions to this are when Riddlesdown Road has to be crossed, where three-way signals will be used and Purley Park Road will be one-way from Riddlesdown Road to Whytecliff Road North; and when going under the railway bridge in Purley Downs Road, where this section of road will have to be closed and local diversions put in place.
Once the detailed programme has been finalised I will blog the details.
Publicity for the project will also be undertaken with letter drops, advance warning signs and via the Council’s website. UKPN will also liaise with residents associations and attend residents meetings to raise awareness of the proposals.
