Over the weekend my ward colleagues and I spent some time looking around the area looking at local environmental issues. There have been concerns raised by residents about the increase in fly tipping and a few areas where litter bins are not being emptied on a regular basis.
We found a number of fly tips in Copthorne Rise, St Mary's Road, Limpsfield Road, Sanderstead roundabout, Orchard Road, Dunmail Drive, Honnister Heights and Kings Woods. The worst offender had dumped two very large bags of builders' waste at the entrance to the woods in Orchard Road.
I have taken the matter up with the director of service who I am sure will have the items picked up very quickly and I am also in discussion about how we can prevent this happening in what is quite often the same locations.
I have suggested a notice explaining that this is a punishable offence which would result in a fine be placed in St Mary's Road and a log or gate be installed at the entrance to Kings Woods which would prevent unauthorised vehicles entering the woods.
Sanderstead is a beautiful place and in the main residents dispose of their waste responsibly. I would ask that if residents see anyone dumping rubbish and are able to safely take car/van registrations or know of anyone dumping garden waste or other items to let me know.
