Purley Downs Road bus route consultation

Last night my ward colleagues and I, along with Purley councillor Simon Brew, attended the consulotation on the extension of the 359 bus route, which (if approved) will be extended from Selsdon to Purley (via Purley Downs Road & Brighton Road). The proposal is that it will run seven days a week every half hour from 0700 to 0745.
Currently the service stops at Selsdon Sainsbury and only runs 1000 to 1500 Monday to Saturday. Although it does not explicitly say so in the consultation leaflet, we understand that the bus to be used would be a small single floor bus, not a double-decker.
Several hundred residents attended the session, many from Purley Downs Road. Although some were in favour, a significant majority were strongly opposed to the scheme.
A number of participants called for the consultation process to be extended to enable them to request further information from TfL on the justification for such a route. I am pleased to say that the TfL Head of Consultation present at the event indicated afterwards that he felt this could be possible, so we will pursue this with him.
