To commemorate the First World War, the London Mozart Players and the Portsmouth Grammar School have commissioned the renowned composer Jonathan Dove to write a cantata to mark the centenary. The commission, ‘For an Unknown Soldier’ lies at the centre of a multi-faceted project that encompasses primary and secondary schools, nursing homes and the local communities of Portsmouth and Croydon.
Built upon a long history of working and commissioning new works with Portsmouth Grammar School, the LMP are delighted to be able to extend the reach of this project to their home in Croydon. They are grateful for support from the Arts Council, Croydon Council and PRS for Music Foundation for making this project possible.
14th November, 7.30pm Fairfield Halls
The LMP will perform the London Première of Jonathan Dove’s For an Unknown Soldier: A Cantata of Remembrance for the centenary of WW1 alongside the choirs of Portsmouth Grammar School, Whitgift School and Croydon Minster, as well as newly formed choirs from Atwood Primary Academy, Ecclesbourne Primary Academy, Monks Orchard and Croydon Parish Church Junior school.
