Safer Neighbourhood Police update
21/02/2018 07:52:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

A man has been arrested following several reports of intimidation and demanding money from several  older local residents in the Rutherwick and Coulsdon Rise areas.

Advice is not to open your door if you do not know person or are not  expecting a delivery. If you have a chain on your door use it at all times for your safety.

Birchfield Close
21/02/2018 07:39:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

New double yellow lines have been introduced to allow access to the refuse lorry and emergency services removing over parking bays that are badly needed in an area of limited parking.

Margaret has been working with the Council over the lack of consultation as residents or Councillors were not notified and are justifiably angry. Street signs may not have been displayed for full 21 days before implementation and were not displayed for easy reading.

Residents deserve to be consulted when they are affected by any change.

Message from Safer Neighbourhood Team
18/02/2018 09:20:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

Dear Residents

In early January we made aware of a male targeting the elderly and vulnerable to obtain money by deception in the Coulsdon area. The male pretends to know victims and has made up stories that he has a baby and needs money or if he can borrow money that he claims he will give back but never returns.

The male we believe was doing this was arrested a couple of weeks ago and is currently on police bail. We are dealing with the case as quick as we can and will hopefully have a positive outcome soon. Unfortunately we have been made aware of a similar offence in the last couple of days and are currently investigating this. Please call 999 if you see him trying to obtain money by deception from someone you know.

All the offences have occurred around Rutherwick Rise usually where the elderly live. This includes Woodhatch Spinney, Byron Avenue, Aldercroft, Coulsdon Road amongst others. The suspect description from the recent offence is white, f511 tall, slim build, woolly hat, moustache.

Please advise elderly relatives or neighbours not to open the door to strangers. If anyone comes to their door that they don’t know get them to ask for I.D. They do not have to let them in and they must leave when told to do so.

There is also a nominated neighbour scheme which helps you protect vulnerable neighbours. If you are interested in this please contact us for more advice.

Notice from Croydon Council on Footway resurfacing on Stoneyfield Rd
30/01/2018 16:19:00.......Posted by Margaret Bird

London Borough of Croydon Place Department Highways Team Bernard Weatherill House 6th Floor, Zone C 8 Mint Walk Croydon CR0 1EA Home owner/Occupier London Borough of Croydon Dear Sir/Madam Footway Surfacing I am writing to inform you that Kier Highways, on behalf of Croydon Council, will shortly be commencing resurfacing at the location/s and date/s below: Date: 13th – 19th February 2018 (excluding weekends) between 08:00- 19:00 Location: Stoneyfield Road To enable the Contractor to undertake the works, on-street parking will be suspended during works hours. We also kindly ask that with forward planning vehicular and pedestrian access to and from properties adjacent to the footway are reduced to a minimum during the works hours. Please speak to the site foreman for any assistance. Advance driver / resident information boards will be in place before the works commence, advising of the precise dates and times of the road restrictions that will be in place. Please however note that unforeseen circumstances (e.g. inclement weather conditions) may necessitate a change to the scheduled dates and information on road signs will be changed accordingly. Please check the road signs regularly for any updates The resurfacing works will take place between O/S House No-13 to Coulsdon Rise and due to the nature of these works it is inevitable that some disruption will occur. For this reason it is recommended that where possible you use alternative routes, or allow extra time to complete your journey. The on-street parking suspensions that will be in place within the works area are 08:00-19:00 on 13th – 19th February 2018 (excluding weekends). No parking for residents on the highway in the areas covered by the enforcement signs. Please note that penalty charge notices (PCN’s) will be applied to vehicles parked within the suspended areas during the works hours and/or vehicles relocated. Due to the above we would urge all residents to ensure that their vehicles are moved from the suspended areas in order to avoid any delays to the works as well as incurring any charges. If your vehicle is relocated please contact the LBC on 020 8726 6000 Ext 52816, who will provide you with an exact location of your vehicle. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this may cause residents; however we want to ensure that all works carried out on the Croydon network are to the highest standards to ensure value for our residents. Beware Bogus Callers Croydon Council does not permit its employees or contractors to undertake work on private property during the course of any scheme. If anyone offers such work they will not be a council approved contractor and should be treated with caution. Any scheme undertaken by a council approved contractor does not require cash payments. Cold calling doorstep traders offering to carry out home maintenance work such as driveway repairs and roofing are a problem in Croydon. These traders can be very persuasive and can intimidate you into agreeing to have work undertaken. The advice from Croydon Trading Standards Service is to say “NO” to all cold calling traders – Every Time. If they will not leave or you get into difficulties, then call Croydon Trading Standards on 020 8407 1311 Thank you for your cooperation whilst we carry out this essential upgrade. If you require any further information do not hesitate to contact us by email: HighwaysMaintenance@croydon.gov.uk or tel: 020 8726 6000 Ext 52816.
