Threat of Major New Rail Junction in South Croydon "extremely remote"

Recently a leaflet delivered in our area by the Lib Dems seemed to suggest the possibility of a new rail junction in South Croydon that would have a very damaging effect on our area. While I knew this was not being discussed at all in Croydon I sought confirmation and clarification from our MP Richard Ottaway. He took up this issue on behalf of the many concerned residents who contacted me. Network Rail has begun a series of studies of future demand for rail capacity. One of those studies will look at the London to South Coast corridor. However in a letter to Richard Ottaway MP the Minister of State, Department of Transport, the Rt.Hon Simon Burns MP writes
"what this study will not look at is whether there is a strategic and affordable case to link Brighton, Gatwick and Croydon by a direct rail route to Canary Wharf,Stratford or Stanstead as proposed by the BML2 Group"
The Minister finishes his letter to Richard Ottaway MP writing
"I think therefore that the threat of a major new rail junction in the South Croydon area in the foreseeable future is extremely remote"
I was very pleased to receive the facts, clarification and reassurance about our local area from the Rt. Hon Simon Burns MP through our MP Richard Ottaway.
