Oppose EDL March
19/06/2013......Posted by Vidhi Mohan

We have been informed that on Saturday 27th July, the English Volunteer Force & English Defence League (EDL) plan to hold a demonstration/march in Croydon. I understand that the march will go past local mosques and culminate at the Immigration Centre at Lunar House.

All Councillors in Croydon are totally opposed the EDL, and all that they stand for. Following the tragic murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich, they have sought to divide our communities on the grounds of race and religion. We have always had excellent community relations in Croydon, and the last thing we need is for such groups to come here and try and damage those relationships. What we need is a greater understanding of what unites us both religiously and culturally, rather than focussing on our differences. While I fully support the right of any group to protest and stage marches, this must not be at the cost of community cohesion.

The police are currently preparing a community impact assessment in relation to this event, and are seeking the views of the community. I would urge you all to write to the Borough Commander stating your reasons as to why you oppose this march, and how damaging it will be to Croydon. We are a peaceful town, and want to keep it that way.

Spent the evening discussing plans to improve Croydon's sports facilities.  Local sports clubs are keen to develop the facilities that are available for current and future residents.

Surrey Street
06/01/2018 19:05:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Spent the morning meeting residents in the area around Surrey Street.  They are very concerned about the proposal to put a nightclub in the basement of the Q Car Park which is just off Surrey Street.  The market stall holders are also concerned as they store their goods, vans and stalls in the basement.

New Addington

Spent the morning meeting residents in New Addington.  They want to see more things for young people to do, and are concerned about the way community groups are being supported.

Children's Services Briefing
06/12/2017 14:35:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended a briefing about the MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub) team in Croydon Council's Children's Services.  All councillors are 'corporate parents' so it's important to get a better understanding of all aspects of Children's Services.

Council Meeting
04/12/2017 14:31:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended Council Meeting in the Town Hall.  Asked the Cllr Butler about what protection will be provided for our green spaces under the local plan.  Not very reassured by her answer as there are likely to be some green spaces with no protection at all.

Lloyd Park litter
02/12/2017 10:29:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

In Lloyd Park today and was disappointed to see two bins overflowing with rubbish. This seems to be happening more regularly in the last year or so.  I have reported this to the council and will put pressure on the current administration to ensure the parks cleaning contractor does its job properly.

New tower block in Wandle Road
01/12/2017 10:24:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

At the Planning Meeting on 30th November there was a presentation about a proposed 25 storey tower block which would be built on the site of the current Wandle Road car park.  It will be a lot higher than the blocks of flats in the near neighbourhood, but not as high as some other tower blocks in Croydon.  I would welcome views about this development so that when a formal planning application is submitted I can represent local views.
