Children's services Ofsted failure
18/09/2017 16:44:00......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended two meetings this evening where the main topic of discussion was the recent poor Ofsted report.  There was the Cabinet Meeting and the Extraordinary Council Meeting.  Still amazed that the Labour administration is taking no ownership of this issue, preferring instead to blame everyone else.  They just need to focus on putting this right so Croydon's children can feel safe.

Lloyd Park litter
02/12/2017 10:29:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

In Lloyd Park today and was disappointed to see two bins overflowing with rubbish. This seems to be happening more regularly in the last year or so.  I have reported this to the council and will put pressure on the current administration to ensure the parks cleaning contractor does its job properly.

New tower block in Wandle Road
01/12/2017 10:24:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

At the Planning Meeting on 30th November there was a presentation about a proposed 25 storey tower block which would be built on the site of the current Wandle Road car park.  It will be a lot higher than the blocks of flats in the near neighbourhood, but not as high as some other tower blocks in Croydon.  I would welcome views about this development so that when a formal planning application is submitted I can represent local views.

Meeting the Police
30/11/2017 10:22:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended the Fairfield ward panel this evening.  This is where the Police meet with local residents to discuss policing in the ward and to agree priorities.  There is a lot of concern about knife crime and anti social behaviour in various parts of Fairfield.

Old Town
26/11/2017 17:58:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Met residents in Old Town today and heard about issues they are having with parking and anti social behaviour.  I have raised both of these issues with the council in the last year but it appears there has been no significant improvement.

Meeting residents in Addiscombe
23/11/2017 17:57:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

It was good to meet residents in Addiscombe as part of a series of meetings around the borough.

Cabinet Meeting
20/11/2017 11:35:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended the Cabinet Meeting in the Town Hall where decisions were being made about the new contract for a leisure services provider and a proposal to bid for London's borough of culture.

Norbury flytips
18/11/2017 22:33:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Spent the morning meeting residents in the north of the borough today.  I was surprised at how much flytipping there is in the area, and wondered what the local Labour councillors are doing about it.  Such a shame that, despite the fanfare and Labour rhetoric about tidying up our borough, they have made no impact on how clean our streets are.

Meeting with Culture Director

Westfield planning application
14/11/2017 22:26:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended the meeting of the Planning Committee where they were making a decision about the planning application for the huge Westfield/Hammerson development which will replace the Whitgift Centre.  There were many details that were absent from the plans (e.g. will there be 4 tower blocks or 5?) but the Committee agreed planning permission for the development.  Not a surprise as there is cross-party support for this scheme which will breathe new life into our town.

Parks meeting
13/11/2017 22:15:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

This evening I held a meeting for people who are in 'friends of parks' groups.  The objective was to find out how they think things are going in terms of the council services for parks.  I also wanted to find out what they think needs to be done to improve parks and what their vision is for the future of the green spaces in Croydon.

It was a very good meeting and refreshing to hear from such committed people who work so hard to make out parks a great place to visit.
