Taberner House development
18/05/2017 18:41:00......Posted by Helen Pollard

Went to the Planning Committee meeting in the Town Hall to speak on behalf of residents against the development planned for the Taberner House site.  The application was given the go-ahead but at least the plans for Queens Gardens will be brought before separate planning meeting.

There was also a presentation about the proposed development in Surrey Street on the site of Matthews Yard.  The developer was given guidance about how to improve the plans before putting in an application.

Extra Surgery in Haethfield Gardens
22/05/2017 19:00:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Held an extra councillor surgery today from 5-6pm on the Heathfield Gardens estate.  The purpose was to meet residents to discuss their views on the proposal to build two blocks of flats on the estate.  Garages and green space will be lost.

I was not surprised to hear that residents strongly oppose the development and I will represent their views at the Planning Committee meeting on 24th May.

Chatsworth Residents' Association
03/05/2017 19:34:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended a meeting of Chatsworth Road Residents' Assocation.  The agenda included a number of issues including the Big Lunch street party in the area and the number of HMOs.  As the Chatsworth Road and neighbouring roads are a conservation area we discussed options for signage to show this.  This is something that can be funded from the councillor budget.

Art in Croydon
02/05/2017 21:36:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Went to an arts event at TMRW where around 50 people came to discuss the future of arts in Croydon. It was good to be part of the discussion and to hear the views on how the arts can be encourged.  Disappointed that Cllr Godfrey, Cabinet Member for Culture Leisure and Sport, was not able to make this event as it was very helpful to hear from so many people who are involved in the arts.

Scrutiny - Fairfield Halls
26/04/2017 11:28:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended the Scrutiny Meeting that reviewed the decision about the appointment of the operator for Fairfield Halls.  At the end of the meeting, the Committee agreed that no further action was required regarding the decision to appoint BHLive as the operator for Fairfield Halls.  This was supported by all councillors and was the right approach at this stage.  Nevertheless, a number of concerns remain about the management of Fairfield Halls going forward:

-          More clarity is needed about how much school and community use there will be at the venue, and on what terms.  At the moment there is no clarity about whether the events that happened before Fairfield Hall closed will be able to continue.  We need to be sure they won’t be priced out of Fairfield Halls.

-          What will happen if the operator fails to deliver on the contract?  £30m has been invested in refurbishing this venue and we need to be confident the money has been well spent and will deliver the cultural programme that Croydon needs.

Here is a link to detailed notes that I took at the meeting
