Residents Welcome New Retail Development
16/02/2013 15:18:00......Posted by Vidhi Mohan

A few weeks ago we had the fantastic announcement that 2 major retail developers, Westfield and Hammerson, had come together to form a joint venture to take forward a 1 billion redevelopment of our town's Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres. This was achieved due to the hard work and lobbying behind the scenes done by the Council leadership and officers, supported by Mayor Boris Johnson and our MP, Gavin Barwell.

Over the lask few weeks we have been speaking to Fairfield residents on the doorstep and at various events. There is unanimous agreement that this is wonderful news for Croydon, and will result in the long overdue regeneration of our town centre. Residents felt that despite a lot of negative publicity in certian sections of the media, businesses and the private sector have shown confidence in Croydon's potential to once again become one of London's premier shopping destinations.

This development will bring three main benefits to our Borough as a whole. Firstly it will create jobs. Not just in retail, but in the various support activities as well as new businesses who will invest in Croydon on the back of this development. Inward investment is all about commercial confidence, and this development will send a strong signal that Croydon is a place to do business in.

Secondly this development, along with others, will deliver hundreds of new homes in the town centre. This will not only bring in much needed housing, but also ensure that there is a vibrant and thriving community living in the town centre, who take ownership the place and ensure that it becomes a pleasant destination for people and families. Of course, new housing will have to include other support services like new schools, GPs surgeries, and proper traffic management.

Finally this development will do wonders for the image of Croydon, and we will once and we will once again become the preferred place for people to live and do business in.

In the coming months we expect significant developments to take place with regards to the scheme including a new planning application, and we will continue to keep residents of Fairfield informed.

Surrey Street
06/01/2018 19:05:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Spent the morning meeting residents in the area around Surrey Street.  They are very concerned about the proposal to put a nightclub in the basement of the Q Car Park which is just off Surrey Street.  The market stall holders are also concerned as they store their goods, vans and stalls in the basement.

Attended a briefing about the MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub) team in Croydon Council's Children's Services.  All councillors are 'corporate parents' so it's important to get a better understanding of all aspects of Children's Services.

Council Meeting
04/12/2017 14:31:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

Attended Council Meeting in the Town Hall.  Asked the Cllr Butler about what protection will be provided for our green spaces under the local plan.  Not very reassured by her answer as there are likely to be some green spaces with no protection at all.

Lloyd Park litter
02/12/2017 10:29:00.......Posted by Helen Pollard

In Lloyd Park today and was disappointed to see two bins overflowing with rubbish. This seems to be happening more regularly in the last year or so.  I have reported this to the council and will put pressure on the current administration to ensure the parks cleaning contractor does its job properly.
