|Supporting Croydon Pride!|
Croydon’s Conservatives councillors have donated over £1,000 to support the borough’s second Pride festival, coming to Croydon Town Centre on Saturday 15th July.
Croydon Pride Fest first took place in 2016 and saw over 2,000 people turning up in solidarity to celebrate Croydon’s diversity. Starting with a Pride march through the town, the main celebration will be in Queen’s Gardens from 12-8pm.
Paula Goodwin, Chair of Croydon Pride, said: “Pride is not just a single event, it is important that Croydon has an organisation to help co-ordinate and facilitate events throughout the year, events such as LGBT History Month, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), and the Transgender Day of Visibility will all greatly benefit from an organisation that operates throughout the year. Croydon Pride will be that organisation, working all year round to improve the lives of LGBT+ people in your ward, and throughout our Borough.”
Cllr Tim Pollard, Leader of Croydon’s Conservative councillors, said: “Croydon Conservatives are delighted to support such an iconic celebration in the Croydon calendar. We are a fabulously diverse community, and it’s only right that we mark 50 years since the decriminalisation of same sex relationships for men in a fittingly high-profile way.
“Our diversity is our strength, and I’m very proud that we have been able to donate to such an important festival. Long may it continue!”
Using their community ward budgets, Conservative councillors Tim Pollard, Lynne Hale, Yvette Hopley, Steve O’Connell, Simon Brew, Badsha Quadir and Donald Speakman have given a total of £1150 to help fund the festival.
Based on Mint Walk, Croydon Conservatives will be at Pride Fest all day this coming Saturday. Come and say hello!
