|Local Councillors TREBLE donation to light up Coulsdon for Christmas!|
Each year in the run up to Christmas, volunteers from across Coulsdon get together to host the annual Yulefest Christmas festival.
Since the beginning Yulefest has been a great opportunity for the whole community to get together and celebrate the festive season. The highlight of the festival is the switching on of Coulsdon Town’s lights.
Each year sees stalls, fun fair rides, live music – all of which takes a lot of work and vital sponsorship. This year Croydon Council allocated a ‘ward budget’ for each of the 70 Councillors in the borough to donate to various important community projects. The Coulsdon West Councillors have generously given Yulefest over £3,000 to pay for all of the vital lights that will illuminate Coulsdon Town this Christmas - THREE times the amount donated last year.
Chris Thairs, Yulefest Organiser said: 'When I found out that the Councillors wanted to help out with Yulefest again this year I was over the moon, however when I found out it was to pay for the whole cost of the lights I was lost for words. This type of generosity is appreciated beyond words, and as an integral part of the festival, means that Coulsdon will be lit up once again. My heartfelt thanks goes out to the Councillors and especially Cllr Mario Creatura who has become a major advocate of Yulefest and what we are doing for the community.”
Cllr Mario Creatura, Coulsdon West, said: ‘The Yulefest is a major event in the Coulsdon community calendar. Chris and the team of volunteers have done a superb job to get it off the ground which is why all three Coulsdon West councillors were delighted to be able to use our ward budget to light up the town for the festive season.’
The Festival is still looking for sponsorship, and is hoping to raise another £1000, especially for the cost of the main stage, where the lights switch on happens. If you are a local business or a resident who’d like to help by donating to the festival then please email Chris Thairs using firstname.lastname@example.org. Or visit www.yulefest.co.uk and see our sponsorship packages.
Yulefest will take place in Coulsdon Town centre on Saturday 3rd December 10am – 7pm with the lights being switched on at 5:30pm. Put the date & time in your diary and we hope to see you there!
