|Number of apprenticeships in Croydon doubles|
Councillor Vidhi Mohan, cabinet member for economic development and communities, has welcomed new data from the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) that the number of apprentices has more than doubled in Croydon since 2010.
The latest data from the NAS reveals that the number of people participating in an apprenticeship scheme in Croydon increased from a total of just 1,230 in 2009/10 to 2,750 in 2011/12, the most recent year for which data is available.
Cllr Mohan says “This is brilliant news for young people in Croydon, giving even more of them the skills they need to succeed. As a result of a concerted push from this Government and Conservative council, there are now more options for young people than ever before and all with a focus on the quality that employers want.
“There is plenty more to do, as there are still far too many not in education, employment or training, but this data combined with the rapidly improving performance of our secondary schools and the significant falls in youth unemployment shows we are on the right track.”
