Andy Stranack is our candidate for Croydon North

Andy Stranack has been selected as the Conservative candidate for Croydon North.

We believe he is exactly the right kind of person to be our next MP - a local community activist, not a career politician.

Andy was born at Mayday Hospital on 13th February 1970 and has a long record of serving our community.

He worked closely with Malcolm Wicks to help establish the Croydon Disability Forum, which supports people with disabilities in the borough.

He wrote the Lottery bid that secured millions of pounds to help re-build Thornton Heath Leisure Centre, impacting the lives of thousands of Croydon North residents.

He worked in West Croydon for Croydon Jubilee Church as a Community Development Worker, helping to set up a number of community services including a debt advice clinic, a lunch club for the retired, several youth organisations and a job club to help people get back into work.

He currently works for with Ment4, a Croydon charity that helps young people aged between 14 and 19 who are involved in crime to turn their lives around.

And he is a member of the West Croydon Community Forum that is trying to regenerate London Road after last year's riots that devastated our town.

Andy says, "It's a great honour to try and fill Malcolm's shoes. He was an outstanding MP. That’s why this by-election is so important. We need an MP who is a community champion, who will work with local people and understands their needs, not a career politician. I am passionate about Croydon and its wonderful, diverse communities and I know that by working together we can make the area an even better place to live and work".

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Andy Stranack was selected at a Special General Meeting of Conservative Party members in Croydon North on Wednesday night. We delayed announcing this decision out of respect to the family of Malcolm Wicks, whose memorial service was on Friday 19th October 2012.

The by-election is expected to be called for Thursday 15th November 2012

Andy has five clear priorities:
- Tackling crime
- Backing pensioners and hard-working people
- Bringing more jobs to the area
- Improving services at our local hospital
- Ensuring all schools are as good as our best

Over the next week more information about Andy and his five priorities for Croydon North will be released on www.andystranack4croydon.co.uk.
