Croydon’s Conservatives have welcomed the decision by London’s Mayor to choose Croydon as a pilot area for the introduction of electric vehicle charging points (EVCPs). This move will pave the way for an increase in the take-up of electric vehicles and a reduction in emissions in the capital. 10 new EVCPs will be introduced within the borough as part of a scheme sponsored by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. The Mayor aims to have 25,000 EVCPs in London by 2015 as part of his strategy to encourage motorists to take the green option when buying a car.
The first 6 sites which were approved by the Traffic Management Committee in Croydon on 10th February, will be at
- 1 at Spicers Yard, South Croydon
- 2 at Wandle Road surface car park
- 2 at Purley High Street
- 1 at Lion Green Road car park
Cllr Mike Fisher, Leader of Croydon Council comments “This pilot scheme is the first step towards the wider implementation of EVCPs so that Croydon residents have free and easy access to green energy for their vehicles. I am delighted that Croydon is leading the way with such an important initiative and I whole heartedly support the Mayor of London with his strategy to encourage the use of greener vehicles.”
