Ottaway supports Council's bid for more police in Croydon
Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, is strongly supporting the lobbying of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) by Croydon Council for more police in Croydon.
Richard said:
“I certainly support this move which seeks to address the severe demands placed on the current police force in Croydon, which does such a good job in tackling crime across the borough.
“Croydon is in the top five boroughs in London for crime; it is a major transport hub, commercial and retail centre and has a night-time economy second only to the West End of London.
“The current Resource Allocation Formula does not recognise Croydon’s position in terms of need and demand. Relative to other boroughs, the number of full time equivalent police officers in Croydon does not adequately reflect the number of notifiable offences. Croydon is the 5th highest in the table of notifiable offences but the 10th in terms of number of notifiable offences per full time equivalent police officer.
“Clearly Croydon is not getting a fair deal in terms of resource allocation for police officers.
“I will write to the MPS and MPA to encourage them to accept Croydon’s representations and to work with Croydon’s Safer Croydon Partnership on finding a way forward to deliver an increase in the number of police officers in Croydon.”
