Local Election 2006
Your Waddon Candidates

A little about the team.....

Jonathan Driver Jonathan works as a teacher and has lived in Waddon for the last 7 years. As a resident of the ward, Jonathan is well aware of the issues facing local residents like anti-social behaviour, graffiti and housing. As a former councillor for Lambeth he has plenty of experience of getting things done in local government and believes he can make a real difference to the lives of people in Waddon. Jonathan’s work within education makes him aware of what matters to young people and he is looking forward to putting it to practical use in Waddon.

Tony Harris Tony has spent over 40 years working with children in Croydon, 34 of them running the popular Old Town Youth Centre in Duppas Hill Terrace. He was forced into early retirement in 1998 after Croydon Council withdrew funding for the Youth Centre. Tony continues to work with young people as well as pensioners in Croydon on a voluntary basis. His huge contribution to the people of Croydon was recognised when he was judged the winner of the ‘Croydon Champions’ Community Award in 2004. Tony hopes that his election as a Councillor for Waddon will enable him to continue his work for the people of Croydon. Tony is married to Valerie and has three grown up children.

Simon Hoar As a local resident who has grown up in Croydon, Simon has been an active campaigner for many years. He has campaigned to save Crosfield, and has raised residents’ issues across Waddon, such as over-development on Pampisford and Haling Park Roads, lack of youth provision for our young and ensuring waste is collected for recycling. Simon’s work as a Researcher at the London Assembly involves dealing with constituents’ issues and representing those people in Waddon, and Croydon as a whole, who need help, whether that be a Council housing issue, graffiti on their home or any other problem.

What will we do if elected?

  • We will pay for THREE additional police officers to work in Waddon. They will be supported by Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers with wide ranging powers.
  • We will improve facilities in Waddon’s Youth Clubs to make sure they are working effectively.
  • We will resist inappropriate backland development and ensure that any developments are in keeping with the area.
  • We will ensure that any new community developments in Waddon are the sort that residents want and will fully utilise. We are not convinced that the current proposals for the development of the Waylands site will deliver community facilities which are generally felt to be useful.
