A little about the team.....
Richard Chatterjee Richard, a Civil Servant, is married with 3 children. He joined the Council in 2002 and has been active scrutinising social services and health borough-wide as well as participating in residents’ activities within Shirley. Richard has had some success in fending off unwanted telecoms mast applications, such as the proposed placing of a mast on the dual carriageway of Bridle Way near the junction with Worcester Close, which was supported by the National Inspectorate on appeal. Richard has also been active in trying to address the problems of anti-social behaviour at Parkfields Rec.
Mike Fisher Mike is a Civil Servant who both lives and works in Croydon. Married, with two young children, he has represented this area since 1998. Mike has always had a keen interest in education and the youth services in Shirley. He is currently a manager of the Shirley Youth and Community Centre. He was also a governor of Beckmead School in Monks Orchard Road, Shirley for over 10 years. Mike has opposed the inappropriate use of garden and back land sites for re-development in Shirley and was one of the main opponents of the plans by the Bethlem Hospital to build a Medium Secure Unit in 2002/3. He has also been pushing for a Police Safer Neighbourhood Team for Shirley since 2003 and is delighted that at last we will be getting one.
Janet Marshall Janet has lived in Shirley for many years and is a Governor of 2 Shirley Schools. Janet’s interest in the voluntary sector is well known. She is a Director of Age Concern Croydon, an organisation that has advised and assisted many Shirley residents. During her time as a Councillor, Janet has held many positions including Shadow Spokesman for Crime & Public Protection and more recently Equalities and Community Partnerships. She is very knowledgeable on Licensing and Planning matters and this has enabled her to get involved in many areas that are of great concern to Shirley residents. |
